The situation that is happening with the star of the TV series “The Boys” Erin Moriarty is not new. Plenty of actresses and actors suffer from attacks by bullies and struggle with this on an ongoing basis.

Usually people like that don’t hesitate and totally don’t see anything wrong in their behavior. Their psychology is quite understandable. Primary goal is to attract as much attention as possible, criticize and place a person in the most unfavorable light. Whether it’s their look or the bad expression of the character they play, it doesn’t bother them.

This isn’t the first time Erin is dealing with that kind of attitude. From the very first season her character was discussed in a rather tough and negative manner. She tried for a long time not to pay attention to it. Eventually, insults in her direction escalated to the point of no return.

On Tuesday night Moriarty broke the silence and reposted to her account on Instagram a fan article, written by a user under the nickname @butcherscanary.

In the article, the author states that “the harassment feels all the worse given the context of her role as Starlight on the show, a woman silenced and sexualized, treated like a celebrity canvas for others to project onto rather than a human being with her own thoughts and feelings. But Annie is fictional, and Erin is not. The torment doesn’t end for her when the credits start, because there is no switch off.”

Erin, in her turn, expressed gratitude to the author for support and expressed quite emotionally in a personal post on Instagram. In the beginning of her post, she emphasized that she gave her all in this role completely. In addition, she said that she felt “paralyzed” and “dehumanized” by the constant criticism on her appearance and the character she played.

“I’ve put blood, sweat, and tears into this role (over & over & over again), I’ve grown UP in this character’s shoes (*emphasis on grown up – we change & evolve mentally AND physically). So with that I say: a) thank you to @butcherscanary b) this does break my heart – I’ve opened up a vein for this role and this kind of trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against and c) everyone’s going through their own battle(s); let’s not add to that. I will never intentionally (and ESPECIALLY) publicly add to yours. This has only strengthened my empathy muscle and to anyone who comes at me: I see you, I don’t hate you, I only empathize and forgive.”

Erin supported by her colleagues from “The Boys”, reaction came immediately. They expressed their willingness to protect her from this attacks, including her co-stars – Antony Starr and Jack Quaid.

Antony Starr wrote in the comments: “support you and what you say here 100%. Well put. Your work on the show is and always has been stellar and you are beautiful inside and out. Keep shining. xo”

Jack Quaid added: “Love you Erin. We’re all here for you. You’re such incredible, talented force of nature and I consider myself incredibly lucky to know you. Keep shining bright. Leave the trolls to us. We got your back.”

All these words perfectly convey the atmosphere which prevails on the set of the series. They are all a family. They care about each other on good and bad days and always ready to cover her back.

Stay strong, Erin! Continue to delight your fans with your talent and charisma. We’re with you.
