“My Indian Boyfriend: The Golden Mile,” a British romantic drama set against Leicester’s Diwali celebrations, has landed U.K. and Ireland theatrical distribution through RFT Films, ahead of the film’s principal photography this summer.
The independent production brings together talent and partners from the U.K., Malaysia, Hong Kong and India. Directed by Vijay Chauhan and produced by Hiu Man Chan, the film follows Jasmine (Jolene Tiong), a Malaysian Chinese architecture student in Leicester, and Krishna (Sushant Shekhar), a British-Indian graduate finding his purpose through dance. Their relationship becomes a lens on identity, ambition, belonging and modern multicultural Britain.
The film is positioned to be among the first British independent productions to center Leicester’s multicultural communities and its internationally recognized Diwali celebrations in a commercial feature, aiming to connect audiences across Europe and Asia.

The U.K.-Ireland deal is part of a broader international push for the film, with discussions ongoing across Europe, Asia and North America as the production lines up global partners ahead of shooting. The shoot will feature locations across Leicester, spotlighting the city’s multicultural heritage.
RFT Films was founded in 2014 by Thondickal. The U.K.-based company distributes South Indian and global cinema in more than 60 countries across the U.K., Europe and Asia-Pacific.
