After one of the most iconic runs in South African TV history, e.tv’s long-running drama “Scandal!” will air for the last time.
Last year, e.tv confirmed that the South African Film and Television award-winning soapie “Scandal!” would be going off screens after more than 20 years, and now the time has arrived.
The channel explained that they believe “Scandal!” has reached the end of its life cycle and will be on air until the end of June 2026.
Leading up to the last chapter, the writers, production team and actors have delivered a jaw-dropping finale filled with moments that have made viewers laugh, cry, and be shocked.
Grace Mahlaba, the head writer of “Scandal!” in a video on Instagram, answered the burning question of how one writes the final chapter of one of South Africa’s most iconic stories and revealed it isn’t gentle.
“Finally, the truth catches up with everyone, but most importantly, every villain faces their reckoning,” she said.
The final chapter has even included a few appearances from characters from the past, such as Daniel Nyathi, portrayed by the renowned actor Sello Maake kaNcube and Quinton Nyathi, portrayed by Brighton Ngoma.
Maake kaNcube had penned an emotional post ahead of his final appearance on “Scandal!”, reflecting on the iconic character.
“As Scandal! takes its final bow, I return one last time as Daniel Nyathi with a heart full of gratitude. What began as a role became a journey. Daniel Nyathi was embraced by millions of South Africans, and for that, I remain deeply humbled.
“Thank you to every viewer who welcomed him into your homes, argued with him, laughed with him and, at times, even forgave him.”
Actress Mapaseka Koetle, who has portrayed Didntle for 12 years and is among the last remaining of the original cast, was emotional in a video when she shared what she will miss most about her character and time at “Scandal!”.
“I literally grew up here so I think I’m gonna miss the crew because you know, actors we see each other a lot, we see each other in different sets, but with the crew I know that I might not see them again. I’ll miss the people, I will definitely miss the people that we work with, the crew, everyone, the cast,” she shared.
“Scandal!” is not the only show going off air; e.tv viewers are also saying goodbye to “House of Zwide,” which has been on air for five years.
The final episode of “House of Zwide” airs at 7.30pm and “Scandal!” for the last time at 8.00pm.
