It’s hard to top my favorite Neil Diamond-inspired film, 2001’s misunderstood gem Saving Silverman, but Song Sung Blue comes pretty damn close. Written and directed by Craig Brewer and starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, this beloved fan favorite follows the ups and downs of a Neil Diamond tribute band. A film that’ll make you laugh, cry, and sing a few Neil Diamond classics, Kate Hudson earned an Academy Award nomination for her performance, and the film has an enviable 97% Popcornmeter rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Although Saving Silverman has an 18% Tomatometer rating on the site, which I assume is a technical glitch. It probably meant to say 118%. ANYWAY, Song Sung Blue used to be streaming on Peacock, but it’s now available on Netflix!
