Saso's Marquee Experience: A luxurious return to Hollywoodbets Durban July with MaXhosa Africa

Saso Brunch Marquee, now called Saso’s Marquee Experience, last year was crowned Best Marquee at the Hollywoodbets Durban July, and now, as they return to Greyville racecourse for the third year, they are gearing up for an extravaganza.

MaXhosa Africa and Saso Brunch Marquee have built a steady relationship that has cultivated into a first-of-its-kind cultural and luxury collaboration.

Since the first rodeo, founder Lusaso “Saso” Ngcobo has worked with the African luxury house MaXhosa Africa, but this year they have entered a partnership that is set to dazzle patrons.

The partnership was announced at a launch event of Saso’s Marquee Experience hosted at the MaXhosa Africa headquarters in Johannesburg. Metro FM presenter Nomuzi “Moozlie” Mabena MC’ed the exclusive launch attended by famous faces such as Unathi Nkayi, Scoop Makhathini, Zulu Mkhathini and Lisa Madibe.

Official and Fashion Partner, MaXhosa Africa, will present its first-of-its-kind fashion show at the Hollywoodbets Durban July. Showcasing never-before-seen items, such as the bespoke and atelier pieces.

Laduma Ngxokolo, founder of MaXhosa Africa, explained that for the past seven years, they have been running a service where they offer customers customization on their clothes or create one-of-one pieces. “Of course, the price is different.”

“We will be showcasing a few of those pieces, which people don’t often see much because we make them for private clients and they wear them in weddings or their private events that you don’t see online. We don’t normally publish them online. So, it is a special one for us.”

Ngcobo and his team have been able to cultivate a strong partnership not only with MaXhosa Africa but also with Stella Artois and Moet and Chandon. Focusing on understanding each other’s vision and achieving common goals, aiming for long-lasting relationships beyond specific events.

“We want to always make sure that people experience something that they’ve never experienced before, and we express that to the partners we want to work with, and they feel the same.

“The vision has stayed the same, the elevation we always want to elevate, we always want to level up, we always want to take it further. And I think that’s what I strengthen the partnership.”

A core focus of Saso’s Marquee Experience is promoting employment for the youth, hiring ambitious individuals who can contribute ideas and see possibilities.

“We try to make sure the youth are involved. They can see what’s happening. They can see that it’s possible. I used to dance, now I’m doing an event at the Durban July.

“We can achieve what we want, and we want to make sure we create the platforms for the youth to be able to express themselves. Whether they’re starting from cleaning, they don’t know they might end up running the production. But you got to start somewhere.”

Amapiano pioneer and global music powerhouse Kabza De Small was revealed as the first headline artist for this year’s event, with additional artist announcements set to follow in the coming weeks.

This year’s marquee promises a bigger, more interesting space with enhanced views compared to previous years.

The price point for Sasso Marquee Experience starts at  R7,500 per head, including hospitality, drinks, and food, with different packages available.
