Carey Mulligan Video Interview On ‘Beef,’ Emmy Chances & Her Career

After a BAFTA Best Actress win for her breakthrough role in 2009’s An Education, plus subsequent awards recognition including three Best Actress Oscar nominations, four Golden Globe nominations, a Tony nom and more, Carey Mulligan now surprisingly turns up in a Netflix TV series. Well, at least for one season, the second for the Emmy-winning anthology series Beef from creator Lee Sung Jin. And like all of her work on the big screen and on stage, she knocks it out of the park.

She is building quite a relationship with Netflix and its massive global viewing platform. Mulligan also has been in involved with the streamer’s Maestro, Mudbound, Spaceman and Greta Gerwig’s Narnia. The platform is lucky to have her. With an impressive filmography including Saltburn, Promising Young Woman, She Said, Suffragette, The Great Gatsby, Shame, Drive, The Ballad of Wallis Island and more, she is one of the most in-demand stars out there.

In Beef, she reunites with her Inside Llewyn Davis co-star Oscar Isaac to play his wife Lindsay Crane-Martin. The pair run a country club in Montecito but head for big trouble when it is bought by a new South Korean owner (Oscar winner Youn Yuh-jung). The wide-ranging eight episodes take Mulligan all the way from California to Korea and gives her a role that has it all including some martial arts fighting (!).

Mulligan joins me for this edition of my Deadline video series The Actor’s Side to talk about why she wanted to join the Beef universe and how it fits in with her impressive filmography.

To watch our conversation and get the “actor’s side” of things from her, watch the video above.

Join me this season every Tuesday and Thursday for a new episode of The Actor’s Side and every Monday and Friday for a new Behind the Lens.
