James Gunn Gives Major Official DCU Slate Update After Man Of Tomorrow

The DC Universe will not slow down in 2027 and beyond.

James Gunn was recently asked on Threads if he could share what the next DCU project will be after Man of Tomorrow. The DC Studios co-CEO stated, “Well Creature Commandos season 2 won’t be long after. And more stuff as well shortly thereafter,” confirming that the animated show won’t be back in 2026, but sometime in 2027.

While Creature Commandos season 2 is currently in production, it was presumed that the next season would arrive at the end of 2026. The DCU show was officially renewed by HBO Max in December 2024, before the season 1 finale aired in January 2025.

However, when it comes to upcoming DCU movies, there are a number of titles that Gunn could be hinting at in his latest update. Several films have been revealed to be in development that may finally be close to arriving after 2027.

Two of the biggest projects from the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate are the upcoming Wonder Woman reboot and the Batman film, The Brave and The Bold. Supergirl’s Ana Nogueira is penning the script for Diana Prince’s big-screen debut, while Christina Hudson is writing the screenplay for the Dark Knight’s adventure in Gunn’s franchise.

While the DCU’s Wonder Woman movie hasn’t landed a director yet, there are many theories that Adria Arjona has been tapped to play the iconic heroine in Man of Tomorrow. As of writing, it’s unknown who she has actually been cast to play in the 2027 installment. However, if Arjona is the new Wonder Woman, having her solo project be one of the next installments for the franchise would make the most sense.

When it comes to The Brave and the Bold movie, Andy Muschietti is attached to direct. Based on Gunn’s tease, it’s possible that things are finally coming together for the creative vision of Bruce Wayne’s DCU debut.

Another hypothetical 2027 release for the franchise is Lanterns season 2, as they have recently hired a new writer. While HBO hasn’t officially renewed the show, it wouldn’t be shocking if the Green Lantern drama is eyed to return next year after season 1.

Creature Commandos season 2 may not be the only DCU animated show in 2027, as DC Studios is currently working on Mister Miracle. While it hasn’t been given a release date yet, they may be eying the Tom King-produced series for next year rather than this year.

The DCU resumes on June 26 with Supergirl opening in theaters, followed by Lanterns premiering on August 16 on HBO, before the Clayface film is released on October 23.
