Widow’s Bay, Katie Dippold’s new razor-sharp series about a cursed costal town that premieres on Apple TV April 29, has officially launched my Matthew Rhys era. I’m embarrassingly late to the party, I know! But after devouring all 10 episodes of the hauntingly good horror comedy made available for review, I raced to smash play on The Americans, which has been on my Emergency To Watch list since it premiered back in 2013. If you’ve already seen the widely acclaimed series, consider this your sign to rewatch. And if you haven’t, consider this your sign to watch for the first time with me! The period spy drama from Joe Weisberg (who also created another personal fave, The Patient) stars Rhys and Keri Russell as Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, two KGB spies carrying out high-stakes missions during the Cold War while posing as Americans. Oh, and they’re also in an arranged marriage and have two kids! I’m only two episodes into the hit FX series, but smart writing, thrilling twists, iconic spy disguises, and the duo’s electric chemistry confirms The Americans was indeed a must-watch.
