Gwyneth Paltrow Revealed That She Has Never Seen ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Even though Gwyneth Paltrow has largely stepped away from acting, Marvel fans continue to pepper the actress with questions about a possible return to the MCU.

Paltrow originated the role of Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s assistant and eventual wife in Iron Man. She would then go on to reprise her role in Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

Paltrow has often cited her friendship with Robert Downey Jr. as the reason that she signed onto the MCU in the first place, and without him, the actress has seemingly had little interest in returning.

Paltrow Has Walked Away From Acting

It is not just Marvel that Paltrow seems to be avoiding these days. Outside of her work on the Ryan Murphy series The Politician, Paltrow has shied away from acting since Endgame and instead focused on her burgeoning Goop wellness brand.

“I just took a chance, and people were really surprised. They didn’t understand what I was doing,” Paltrow said of her transition from Hollywood to business owner.

“I’m really happy I did it because I’ve learned so much through the process of growing this company and working with this team and all of the challenges, whether it be inventory management or Excel. I never thought in a million years I would have to learn how to read a P&L. It’s been so thrilling to build this business and still do what I love to do.”

The Beginning of Paltrow’s MCU Journey

In a recent interview at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, Paltrow broke down her gradual disillusionment with the MCU.

According to Shakespeare in Love actress, she agreed to sign on for 2008’s Iron Man in order to work with her friend Robert Downey Jr. She also received assurances that despite being a superhero film, the production would be an “artistically stimulating experience.”

“The first film we did was very different from the rest because the studio didn’t think it was going to be a big hit,” she said. “They hired Jon Favreau to direct who was great. And they hired Robert Downey Jr., who was unhireable at the time. His career was at a very low point.”

According to Paltrow, because there were such low expectations for Iron Man, production on the film felt like an Indie project.

“We improvised almost every scene of that movie. We would write scenes in the morning in Jon’s trailer. It was like doing an independent film. Then the movie was such a huge hit that then we didn’t make them like that anymore,” she said.

Growing Disillusioned With the MCU

As the Marvel movies got bigger and bigger, Paltrow had a harder time keeping up. As it turns out, she has never seen Avengers: Endgame.

“To be honest, I stopped watching them at some point. I’ve never seen End Game. I can’t keep track of who’s what. But I probably should at some point,” she revealed.

While Paltrow would seemingly be happy never to act again, she is still leaving the door open for a possible return.

“I never say never. I’m really happy and busy doing what I’m doing. But if one of my best said, please come and do this, maybe I would consider.”
