From director Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) comes a new dark comedy that you simply have to see with your own eyes to believe. Saltburn follows a new student at Oxford University named Oliver (Barry Keoghan) who becomes obsessed with his classmate Felix (Jacob Elordi) and forms a fast friendship with him. When Oliver is invited to spend the summer at Felix’s family’s estate, his world is turned upside down as he gets acquainted with the luxurious life the rich live.
After having seen Saltburn, I can assure you this is one of the most strange, funny, and overall original movies of the year. I can’t wait to see it again! Taking place in 2006 and 2007, the film embodies a nostalgic time for millennials when MGMT played the soundtrack to our lives and all anyone could talk about was the movie Superbad. Though I can’t relate to the wealthy lifestyle Felix and his family live, I definitely love and understand the early 2000s vibe which is completed by the movie’s soundtrack.
What is the song in the Saltburn teaser trailer?
Before we get into the full soundtrack for Saltburn, a question on everyone’s minds has been what the song in the teaser trailer is. It’s a great way to set the tone of the preview and the movie, and I added it to my Spotify right after hearing it. The song is “The Pioneers” (M83 Remix) by Bloc Party. It’s a great one.

The last song of the movie, “Murder On The Dancefloor,” is already creating buzz amongst viewers, as the ending sees a fully nude Barry Keoghan dancing along to it in a surprising moment. While speaking to Entertainment Tonight about the scene, director Emerald Fennell revealed they did 11 takes to get the dance scene just right. And while Keoghan might’ve been hesitant to bare it all at the start, he got comfortable and was ready to do as many takes as they needed:
“The initial thing was about me having no clothes on. I’m a bit, ehhh,” he says, pulling a face. “But after take one, I was ready to go. I was like, ‘Let’s go again. Let’s go again.’ You kind of forget, because there’s such a comfortable environment created, and it gives you that license to go, ‘All right, this is about the story now.’”
Fennell spoke to Radio Times about the movie’s soundtrack ahead of its release. “Music in general, for me, is really, really important,” she shared. “It’s a huge part of the writing process, and then a lot of songs will be in the script just so I kind of know where we are as these sort of anchor points.”
The director also collaborated with composer Anthony Willis again, having worked with him on Promising Young Woman, who created the score for Saltburn. You can listen to the score album on Spotify right below:
