Radio Company has released their LIVE FROM NASHVILLE album. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since they played their first-ever concert. It was a personal joy of mine to write about it.
The date was December 19, 2022.
Hearing this incredible album has resulted in the experience rushing back to me in vivid detail. Every one of those cherished images cascading in, on waves of pure delight. Each flashback and feeling played its part in a multi-layered experience that I will cherish for as long as my memories serve me.
I remember it all.

Like so many others, I was wrapped up in the pre-show excitement, the incredible vibe that buoyed the whole crowd and the magnificent opening act, Louden Swain, who set the stage for that turned out to be one of the best concerts this writer has ever attending. And I’ve seen some damn good concerts in my day; The Who, Bob Seger, Eric Clapton, George Thorogood, Matchbox Twenty, 54-40, Colin James, Rod Stewart, Blue Rodeo, Genesis (just caught their Last Domino Tour in Toronto Nov/21), to name some of my cherished faves.
What Radio Company so effortlessly delivered that others have not, for me at least, was intimacy. I’m an old school rocker of sorts, so my music idols tend to be far away on stadium stages with pyrotechnics, refrigerator sized speakers stacked sky-high like giant Jenga blocks and everything illuminated with enough spotlight to be seen from outer space. Each artist revered as a Rock-God. Worshipped yes, but distant, unapproachable. Detached.
Jensen Ackles and Steve Carlson cracked that code without even trying. That night, their celebrity didn’t separate them, it imbued the crowd with the warmth of their friendship and camaraderie. It was as though they were playing their music to a group of friends who stopped by for a Christmas drink.
What a night it was. I am filled with gratitude just reliving the moment.

As I sit comfortably in my office chair, headphones on, their live album on repeat, I’m left wondering if I haven’t been more fortunate then I know.
The opportunities for Jensen and Steve to perform together are so few, and their fans so numerous, it only stands to reason that a larger venue is the only choice that makes sense now. I hope it’s Red Rocks Amphitheater. That place is on my bucket list.
I’m keeping the faith though. I believe those gents will deliver a huge dose of warmth and familiarity along with their musical talent, regardless of where they play. I’ll move heaven and earth to be there.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m about to listen once again to Sheree Smith belt out her rendition of Ann Peebles’, “I Can’t Stand the Rain.”
