Euphoria star Jacob Elordi was one of the fan-favorite candidates to become the new Man of Steel for Superman: Legacy, and the actor was even given the opportunity to try out for the iconic role. But, the Priscilla actor rejected the offer of auditioning for the DCU project because it was “too dark” for him. The Australian actor, who made his debut just five years ago in The Kissing Booth, has become one of Hollywood’s greatest promises. Although at first it seemed like he would simply be a romantic comedy teen idol, his debut in the HBO drama Euphoria and his intense portrayal of Nate Jacobs catapulted him into other types of projects. With Priscilla, Sofia Coppola’s new film where he plays Elvis Presley, Elordi demonstrates his versatility and talent. But it seems that he wants to continue growing closer to independent cinema and away from the big franchises.
In the months leading up to the announcement that David Corenswet was the new Clark Kent, many actors were mentioned by insiders as possible candidates for the coveted role, and Elordi was one of them. However, rumors indicated that the actor had rejected the audition. And now he himself confirms it.
In an interview with GQ, he confessed that he was offered to audition for Superman: Legacy, but passed on it:
“They asked me to read for Superman. That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”
Ultimately, Corenswet was chosen for the role, but there is no doubt that Elordi would also have been a very good choice, especially with the popularity he has gained in recent years.
Jacob Elordi Is Not Interested in the Superhero Genre
Although he grew up admiring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger for their portrayals of Batman and the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, Elordi admits that he’s not sure the superhero genre is for him:
“Not particularly, no. I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen! And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies. And then I’m supposed to finish it with: ‘Never say never!”
Superman is not the only role in the world of comic books which the actor has been linked to. Recently, there were also many fans requesting him for Nightwing, a very popular character within the Batman universe that fans have been waiting to see on the big screen for a long time.
As for Elordi’s future, the actor is still awaiting the release of He Went That Way, a film directed by Jeffrey Darling in which he stars alongside Zachary Quinto. In addition, he has two other movies in post-production, Daniel Minahan’s On Swift Horses and Paul Schrader’s Oh, Canada, and will return for the third season of Euphoria, which currently has no release date. This year, in addition to Priscilla, he was part of the cast of Sean Price’s The Sweet East and Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn.
Superman: Legacy is due for release on July 11, 2025.
