Strange New Worlds EPs & Cast Tease Season 2 – Deadline

Strange New Worlds EPs & Cast Tease Season 2 – Deadline

“If you enjoyed Season 1, Season 2 takes it to a whole other level,” Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Christina Chong said of the trajectory of the Paramount+ series. “I mean, we’re getting scripts in and completely in awe of everything Henry and Akiva have created,” the actor who portrays USS Enterprise security chief La’an Noonien-Singh added. “If you loved Season 1, you’re absolutely going to go crazy over Season 2!”

“The cast has been speaking together, and we talk about how Season 1 was definitely a meal, but we feel like we have so much more this season,” co-star Celia Rose Gooding said of the upcoming season currently in production in Toronto. “So it is everything times itself.”

As you can see in the video above, both Chong and Gooding, who has taken on the iconic role of Nyota Uhura in the latest Trekverse series, were speaking during the Deadline Virtual Screening Series presentation of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The duo was joined by co-showrunners and executive producers Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Meyers as well as fellow cast members Anson Mount and Ethan Peck. Chong and Gooding are new editions to the Trekverse company, but Mount and Peck have established themselves to fans new and old via Stark Trek: Discovery as Captain Christopher Pike and a younger Spock, respectively.

Renewed earlier this year for a second season before its May 5 premiere on Paramount+, Strange New Worlds works both within Star Trek canon and almost completely independently. Today saw “Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach,” the sixth episode in the 10-episode first season, drop on the streamer. The Season 1 finale of SNW debuts July 7, with Season 2 expected in the first half of 2023.

The Season 1 premiere, which we watched as part of the virtual screening series, was penned by Goldsman, with the story by Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Oscar winner Goldsman also directed the premiere episode. Kurtzman and Lumet serve as executive producers alongside Goldsman, Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Aaron Baiers.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
