Jason Momoa Brings Lobo to Life in DCU Fan Art

Summary

  • Jason Momoa’s time as Aquaman may be ending, but he could potentially join the DCU as Lobo, bringing his comic book dreams to life.
  • Lobo, the “Main Man,” is a lesser-known comic book character with superhuman strength, accelerated healing, and expertise in combat and weaponry.
  • Lobo’s arrival in the DCU could bring a Deadpool-like anti-hero to counter the disappointment of the old franchise, and if Momoa takes on the role, it would be a huge bonus for the franchise.

Jason Momoa’s time as Aquaman could come to an end this December, with rumors rife that none of the stars of Zack Snyder’s DC Universe will be returning to their roles in future stories. However, as one door closes, another opens, and that seems to be true of Momoa, who could rejoin the franchise in the guise of Lobo.

The rumors of Momoa playing Lobo in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU have been circulating for almost a year now. Originally instigated by Momoa himself, following a meeting with Gunn about his DC future, the actor seemed to leave that tête-à-tête full of joy at being told that all of his comic book dreams were about to come true. Now, with recent reports of the old Justice League’s complete removal from the picture, the way for Momoa to go is clearer than ever.

With that in mind, it is obviously time for more fans to serve up their visions of what the actor could look like as Lobo, and for anyone who has seen DC’s “Main Man” in his comic book outings, the casting does seem about as perfect as it could possibly be. You can check out the new idea of what Momoa could look like as his new DC persona in the coming years below.

Who is Lobo?

DC Comics

When it comes to comic book characters, there are those who started it all in the early years of what would become DC and Marvel, and there are others who have joined the ever-expanding world of superheroes in more recent times.

In relative terms, Lobo sits somewhere in the middle. Having made his debut in the early 1980s, the character is still not well-known outside of those with an interest in comic book lore, but that is something that could well change if Momoa does indeed bring the role to the big screen in the new DCU.

The character known as the “Main Man” was the creation of Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, and made his first appearance in 1983’s first edition of “Omega Men.” Hailing from the planet of Czarnia, Lobo is the last survivor of his home planet following a mass-genocide event that he instigated. Among his many attributes, Lobo possesses superhuman strength, accelerated healing, which in turn makes him almost immortal, and he is an expert in both hand-to hand combat and weaponry. All in all, not someone anyone would want to willingly tangle with.

One of the biggest selling points of Lobo coming to the DCU, is that, in his own way, he shares many of the qualities that have made Deadpool such a crowd-pleaser, and that is certainly something that Gunn and Safran’s DCU could do with to counter the general disappointment that 2022/2023 brought to the old franchise. As a loud, crude, violence-loving anti-hero, what reason could there possibly be not to love Lobo? If Momoa does slip into the character’s leather jacket, then that can only be a huge bonus for the franchise.
