The Challenge Teaser Shows Real-Life Netflix Competition – The Hollywood Reporter

The games have officially become a reality in Netflix’s upcoming series Squid Game: The Challenge.

The reality show, based on the streamer’s popular global dystopian series Squid Game, follows 456 real players from around the world who enter the competition show in pursuit of a record-setting cash prize of $4.56 million. The players will compete through games inspired by the original show as well as some surprising new additions.

One contestant can be heard saying in the footage, “$4.56 million dollars – people do a whole lot worse for a whole lot less.”

The original Squid Game series, Netflix’s most popular show of all time, told the story of a divorced father and gambler (Lee Jung-jae) who joins a secret competition with 456 total players. But the losers of each round are executed in the survival game until one victor remains and takes home the cash prize. The series has been renewed for a second season.

Squid Game took the world by storm with [director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s] captivating story and iconic imagery,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix vp unscripted and documentary series, previously said of the reality show. “We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment. Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest-ever cash prize at the end.”

The series is being co-produced by Studio Lambert and The Garden with Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt and Toni Ireland from Studio Lambert; and John Hay, Nicola Hill and Nicola Brown from The Garden serving as executive producers.

Squid Game: The Challenge, which consists of 10 episodes, hits Netflix on Nov. 22.
