Chris Evans’ Captain America Gets Uncharacteristically Angry In Avengers Endgame Unreleased Scene

Summary

  • Captain America’s unreleased scene in Avengers: Endgame reveals his rage towards Thanos and his actions, showcasing a rare moment of anger for the character.
  • Although this scene didn’t make it into the film, Captain America’s rage is still evident in Avengers: Endgame, particularly during the final battle against Thanos.
  • The movie emphasizes Captain America’s determination and will to defeat Thanos, with him finally unleashing his rage by relentlessly attacking the villain with both his shield and Thor’s hammer.

An Avengers: Endgame unreleased scene would have featured an angry Captain America. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become very different since Avengers: Endgame‘s ending, with the movie finishing Captain America’s MCU arc beautifully, closing the Infinity Saga with Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter finally sharing a dance together. While Steve ultimately got his dream ending, Captain America had to go through many hardships in Avengers: Endgame to get there, and that took a toll on him.

Marvel’s Look Out For The Little Guy! book — which is written in-universe by Ant-Man — reveals a missing Avengers: Endgame scene that would have featured Captain America in an uncharacteristic moment. In the book, Scott Lang reveals that, during his conversation with Captain America and Black Widow upon entering the Avengers’ compound after leaving the Quantum Realm, Steve’s rage was palpable. Scott writes that Captain America’s “rage uncharacteristically [gets] the better of him” after Ant-Man called the citizens who were blipped “missing people.” Steve then makes Scott understand the weight of what Thanos did, saying, “That maniac took out half of all life. Not just on Earth. In the universe.”

How Avengers: Endgame Displayed Captain America’s Rage Instead

While Captain America’s outburst with Ant-Man did not make it into their conversation in Avengers: Endgame, the movie still showed that Steve Rogers’ rage over what Thanos did was very much present. At the start of the film, Evans’ Steve Rogers leads a support group to help those who stayed behind after the Blip. Captain America’s sorrow can be felt, with the hero’s facial expressions hinting at how much hurt and anger he had over Thanos’ actions.

Then, Captain America was part of the Avengers that attacked an injured Thanos. The hero did not flinch when Thor cut Thanos’ hand to get the Infinity Gauntlet, nor when the God of Thunder decapitated Thanos. In other times, Captain America would likely have shown some kind of strong reaction to such a display of cold blood from the hero, but Steve had no love lost for Thanos, and Avengers: Endgame saw Captain America simply let a pained breath out after realizing there was no way to reverse the Blip.

Avengers: Endgame‘s final battle was the moment where Captain America was finally allowed to let out his rage against Thanos. Steve Rogers hit the villain rapidly and relentlessly with both his shield and Thor’s hammer — Mjolnir. Later, right before several heroes that had been snapped away in Avengers: Infinity War joined the fight, a hurt Steve Rogers was shown tightening his shield to his arm and gritting his teeth as he moved on to face Thanos’ entire army alone. Captain America was standing through the sheer power of his rage and will, showing that the hero was ready to do whatever it took to take down Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.
