Samuel L. Jackson Wants Nick Fury to Visit Wakanda

While other stars such as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johannson have moved on from the MCU, Samuel L. Jackson is happy to stick around as long as Marvel will have him.

In fact, in an interview on the red carpet for his upcoming Disney+ series “Secret Invasion” Fury reflected on his long journey, and gave no hint of wanting to slow down.

“I don’t know, it’s kind of up and down for me in an interesting sort of way,” Jackson said “Feels like I’ve been playing him forever. If I had it my way, I would’ve been in every Marvel movie because, I mean, he is Nick Fury, he knows everything that’s going on.”

Nick Fury in Wakanda?

Interestingly, despite having been a member of the MCU so for 15 years, Fury has yet to appear in a “Black Panther” movie. Jackson has some questions about that.

“I’m still trying to figure out why I’ve never been to Wakanda,” Jackson said. “They didn’t ask me to go, but I’m still trying to get there. I need a ticket.”

Jackson Defends Marvel

While Marvel has been the target of criticism by Hollywood luminaries such as Martin Scorsese and Quinton Tarantino, Jackson has been a starch defender of the studio’s films. In response to Tarantino’s assertion that Marvel doesn’t create movies stars, Jackson (certainly a star in his own right) was quick to fire back.

““It takes an actor to be those particular characters, and the sign of movie stardom has always been, what, [behinds] in seats? What are we talking about?” Jackson said on “The View” when asked about Tarantino’s comment. “That’s not a big controversy for me to know that apparently these actors are movie stars. Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther. You can’t refute that, and he’s a movie star.”

As for his own career, Jackson insists that he is going to do what makes him happy.

“My yardstick of success is my happiness: Am I satisfied with what I’m doing? I’m not doing statue-chasing movies. You know [whispers]: ‘If you do this movie, you’ll win an Oscar.’ No, thanks. I’d rather be Nick Fury. Or having fun being Mace Windu with a lightsaber in my hand.”
