Exclusive Jagged Mind Clip Delivers the Chilling Message Behind Hulu’s Latest Psychological Thriller

Hulu is celebrating Pride Month with its new queer psychological horror thriller Jagged Mind, which is now available to watch on the streaming platform. The film is directed by Kelley Kali (Thanks for Asking) and stars Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Shannon Woodward.

The story centers on a woman who suffers strange visions that form a larger puzzle, since she is actually trapped in a time loop, and everything seems to be related to her new girlfriend. As the story unfolds, she’ll need to put the pieces together inside her head to try and figure out what’s going on, as the latest clip from the film teases:

Maisie Richardson-Sellers was one of the big stars of the canceled Arrowverse series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, where she played various characters within the team, the most popular being Vixen/Amaya Jiwen. In addition, she was part of the cast of The Originals, another popular show of the network, spinoff of The Vampire Diaries.

The Recent History of Queer Horror Stories

Netflix

Jagged Mind comes at a great time for queer stories in the horror genre. Although the LGBTQ+ community has been able to find some decent representation throughout its history in horror films, recent years have seen a resurgence for queer stories within the genre.

Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy is a prime example, as Sarah and Hannah’s romance is at the center of the entire story. Hulu recently took another important step in representing the community within the world of horror with Jamie Clayton playing the new version of Pinhead in the reboot of the classic Hellraiser saga.

Blumhouse, a pioneer within the genre in many aspects, has also contributed outstanding titles in recent years, perhaps the most representative being They/Them, starring Kevin Bacon. Another surprise in recent months was Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, a risky bet directed by Halina Reijn.

And on the small screen the story has not been very different, with Ryan Murphy delivering all kinds of characters and stories in American Horror Story, or Don Mancini bringing Chucky back to the top of the genre with his series that has an openly gay protagonist.

Other shows like Yellowjackets, which deal with more psychological horror than gore, have also featured a wide range of characters including representatives of the LGBTQ+ community in leading roles such as Tawny Cypress and Jasmin Savoy Brown, with the latter also playing a lesbian woman in the Scream saga in its last two installments.
