Dragon’s Dogma 2 Gameplay Trailer Reveals A Much Bigger World But No Release Date

We got a fresh look at Dragon’s Dogma 2 during Capcom’s showcase event. A lot of what we learned was that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be similar to the original, but Capcom dropped a few tidbits worth digging into, including news about the world size and physics-based gameplay.

Dragon’s Dogma was a cult hit, having received decent reviews at launch but gathering a bigger fan following in the years since. This sequel will run on the RE engine, and original game director Hideaki Itsuno has returned for it. Capcom has kept the game mostly under wraps but previously promised AI- and physics-driven tech, along with a wide array of weapon types and classes.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be set in a world roughly four times the size of the original Dragon’s Dogma, director Hideaki Itsuno said during the stream. The world was already big in that game and featured very limited fast travel, so we’re hoping they’ll add mounts–a dragon maybe?–and modern fast travel options.

Itsuno also hinted at gameplay that makes use of “immersive physics,” and offered up examples like destroying a bridge or pulling on a monster’s leg. This could be a huge change to the combat from the original, but the trailer didn’t stop to show us how that will work. Aside from the new physics, expect a lot of what you know. Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be a single-player open-world RPG that lets you bring your Pawn–an NPC companion–and up to two Pawns from other players. Itsuno mentioned that the game will feature new vocations for players to take up, as well as new monsters like Medusa.

We also got a look at two characters who play a big role in the story and will release on the game’s cover art: Ulrika the bow wielder and Nadinia the high priestess. Nadinia is particularly interesting, as they’re a member of the Beastren race, with their face having leopard-like patterns. Capcom also confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma II will appear on the PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S, but left out the one piece of information we’re waiting for–the release date.
