After weeks of rumors, it has seemingly been confirmed that The Flash director Andy Muschietti will return to the DCU to helm the upcoming Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold. While official confirmation is still pending, One Take News has reportedly “confirmed with multiple sources” that Muschietti will direct the latest reboot of The Dark Knight, in a move that has been teased by both the filmmaker himself and DC Studios co-chief James Gunn.
The idea of Muschietti following up The Flash with The Brave and the Bold has been the subject of much discussion for a while now, with the director playing things coy when asked directly whether he would play a role in the first chapter of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s recalibrated DCU. “I can’t speak to that… yet,” he replied recently. Aside from The Flash, Muschietti is best known for the horror hits It, It Chapter Two, and Mama.
James Gunn meanwhile has done nothing but praise Muschietti’s work on The Flash, calling it “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made” back in February and even stating that “Andy’s going to be doing some more stuff for us.”
The Brave and the Bold will come as part of the new DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Beginning with the Superman reboot, Superman: Legacy, the rest of the chapter will consist of The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing, on the big screen, with other projects expected to be announced at a later date.
While details remain largely under wraps, The Brave and the Bold will begin to introduce the Bat-Family and will center on Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne, who has now become Robin. Gunn has since described the movie as being a “strange father and son story” about the superhero duo. Chapter One: Gods and Monsters will kick-start with Superman: Legacy, which is due to be released on July 11, 2025.
Andy Muschietti Will First Direct Two Versions of Batman in The Flash
Before exploring the relationship between Batman and his son, director Andy Muschietti will first deal with two versions of The Caped Crusader in The Flash. Worlds will collide in The Flash when the superhero uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past. However, when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, he becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation. With no other superheroes to turn to, the Flash looks to coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian — albeit not the one he’s looking for.
The Flash will bring back both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as alternate versions of Batman, with Ezra Miller reprising the role of Barry Allen aka The Flash alongside Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, and Antje Traue as Faora-Ul, with the movie also promising plenty of crowd-pleasing cameos.
After years and years of delays, The Flash is now scheduled be released in the United States on June 16.
