Watch John David Washington In Thriller From 20th – Deadline

20th Century Studios, New Regency and Entertainment One on Wednesday unveiled the first trailer, poster and stills for The Creator (fka True Love), their epic sci-fi action thriller starring John David Washington (Tenet), which is slated for release in theaters on September 29th.

20th Century Studios

Set amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, the film follows Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Eternals‘ Gemma Chan), who is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory… only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child.

The Creator is directed by Gareth Edwards, the filmmaker behind such blockbusters as Rogue One and Godzilla. Scripted by Edwards and Chris Weitz, from a story by Edwards, the film’s cast also includes Ken Watanabe (Inception), Sturgill Simpson (Dog), newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles and Academy Award winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya).

Pic’s producers are Edwards, Kiri Hart, Jim Spencer and Arnon Milchan. The executive producers are Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Nick Meyer and Zev Foreman.

The Creator will contend on its opening weekend at the box office with an as-yet-unnamed Universal title and the indie Abandonment with Richard Dreyfuss, releasing on the heels of such major titles as Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls, Sony’s The Book of Clarence and Lionsgate’s The Expendables 4, which are set to open on September 22nd, as well as Paramount’s PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie and a re-release of Howl’s Moving Castle set for the 23rd.
