I mean. There are at least a dozen of Windows-based handhelds in the market right now and they work. The experience is not as seamless as the Steam Deck, but what most companies do is exactly what Asus is trying to do. A third-party utility tool that makes managing the system easier.
As for the issues specific to the Xbox app. I’m not going to deny that the app is not optimized right now. If wasn’t for the EGS being a thing, I would say it’s the worst launcher available on the PC ecosystem. And I really wish that Microsoft would not only fix it but also expand it in a similar fashion to Steam Big Picture or GOG Galaxy, so we could turn it into a hub for all things gaming.
But I doubt that they will be able to do such a thing in the few months between now and the Ally launch. And another point that is interesting is SteamOS as well, chances are that it will run out of the box with the Ally, with minor issues on things like the RGB lights. So if Windows really bother you, maybe try HoloIOS or ChimeraOS.
