For my money, Robert Altman’s The Long Goodbye is one of the best noir films ever made. Based on Raymond Chandler’s novel of the same name, the cult favorite follows Philip Marlowe (Elliott Gould), an idiosyncratic private eye who investigates the murder of his friend’s wife — and later the suspicious death of said friend. The distinct style, magnetic performance from Gould, and deft storytelling combine to make this iconic mystery film an all-time classic. If you want to stream The Long Goodbye on Tubi, well, that’s okay with me.
