Sennheiser Launches 5th Generation of Evolution Wireless With the EW-DP Series

A (wireless) legacy continues.

As many of the conversations around NAB 2023 have to do with hypothetical new futures of AI generation and fully remote production, it’s easy to lose sight of how far the film and video industry has already come.

From celluloid origins and years of countless cables tripping up production sets all over the globe, the advancements made in wireless technology have been invaluable — if not a bit forgotten by today’s standards.

But as we see showcased at the Sennheiser booth at NAB 2023, the legacy of wireless audio technology is still alive and rich as ever as we’re excited to check out the new 5th-generation of Sennheiser’s Evolution Wireless systems for all matter filmmaking and video applications.

Let’s take a look at the new EW-DP EK receiver and the new EW-DP series to explore how the latest in wireless technology can still kick your productions up to levels above the clouds.

The Sennheiser Evolution Wireless EW-DP EK

Designed specifically for content creators, filmmakers, broadcasters, and everything in between, this new EW-DP is a fully digital UHF wireless microphone system with a brand-new portable design that should provide truly unmatched audio quality and control.

“On set time is the most valuable asset. Therefore, we designed EW-DP such that it is intuitive and fast to set up and helps you to troubleshoot your system,” said Tobias von Allwörden, head of Sennheiser’s Audio for Video portfolio. “EW-DP provides the reliability and consistency that you need in stressful filming situations and time-sensitive working scenarios.”

At its core, this new EW-DP EK is a compact and smart receiver that should be easy to use for the most novice of users, as well as a powerful tool for any industry pro. The EW-DP EK is also set to feature a new innovative magnetic stacking system and will be controllable from a Smart Assist app.

As we saw at NAB, there are actually three sets available now including an EW-DP ME 2 SET which comes with the bodypack transmitter and the ME 2 omnidirectional clip-on microphone, an EW-DP ME 4 SET which includes a cardioid clip-on mic, and an EW-EP 835 SET which includes a handheld transmitter with cardioid MMD 835 dynamic microphone head.
