BioWare veteran Mark Darrah and the Mass Effect team are helping to finish Dragon Age 4

EA has announced that BioWare veteran Mark Darrah is again working with the studio in a bid to help it complete Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Darrah, who is now serving as a consultant on the game, retired from BioWare in February 2021 after almost a quarter of a century at the studio.

During that time, he led programming for the Baldur’s Gate games, directed Sonic Chronicles and exec produced the Dragon Age series.

Additionally, EA told VentureBeat that BioWare’s Mass Effect team is now assisting with Dragon Age: Dreadwolf development, while a small core group led by Mike Gamble continues pre-production work on the next entry in the sci-fi series.

In contrast, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has been in post-production since last September.

“Our studio is focused on creating the best Dragon Age: Dreadwolf while the core Mass Effect team continues their pre-production work,” said BioWare general manager Gary McKay. “We continue to iterate and polish Dreadwolf, focusing on the things that matter most to our fans.

“As we further connect this new experience with the series’ legacy Mark Darrah will join the team as a consultant, bringing with him years of experience working on Dragon Age.”

Samantha Ryan, senior vice president and group general manager at EA, added: “BioWare has a long history of making amazing single-player games with powerful stories that fans can immerse themselves within.

“They’ve been taking their time on the next Dragon Age, trying new things, bringing in the right people, and making sure they’re refining their game. That’s normal for a complex game of this genre. This phase of production takes time, and the studio wants to make sure it gets it right for its fans.”
