Golden Globes: TV Actors Who Could Win Big

In the latest episode of “Awards Circuit,” presented by HBO, Variety TV editors Michael Schneider and Emily Longeretta singled out a slew of performances that made this year’s hottest television series sparkle, from the likes of Jennifer Coolidge in “The White Lotus” to Zendaya in “Euphoria.”

For the upcoming Golden Globes, in best performance by an actress in a drama, Hilary Swank’s performance in “Alaska Daily” was noted as a surprise nomination because of the show’s broadcast home on ABC edging out the popularity of streaming service shows. Schneider remarked Zendaya’s awards season prowess — already having multiple Emmys to her name for her role as Rue Bennett on the HBO series — gives her a great chance at taking home the win. Additionally, Coolidge’s return in the second season of “The White Lotus,” along with the show’s highly-received finale, will grant Coolidge some serious consideration among voters as well.

In actor in drama, Adam Scott for “Severance,” Kevin Costner for “Yellowstone,” Diego Luna for “Andor” and more are nominated at the Golden Globes. Particular attention was given to Bob Odenkirk for his role in AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” which would be one of the actor’s final chances to receive awards recognition for his performance as the series concluded last summer.

In the musical/comedy category, Donald Glover received a nod for the final season of “Atlanta,” as did Bill Hader for “Barry” along with Steve Martin and Martin Short for “Only Murders in the Building.” Jeremy Allen White was noted as a frontrunner in the category for his performance in FX’s “The Bear,” citing the show’s quick rise in popularity during the summer of 2022 when it released. On the actress front, Jean Smart was marked as the clear frontrunner to win for her role in “Hacks,” while the likes of Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday” and Selena Gomez for “Only Murders in the Building” are also firmly in the mix.
