Reboot S1 Episode 7: Baskets

Reboot S1 Episode 7: Baskets

The show Reboot is nearing its conclusion. Only one episode left before the final chord. And each time the creators of the show are paying more and more attention to specific characters and immersing viewers in their stories and their problems. The audience definitely loves these characters. After all, each of the characters is revealing a new and previously unknown side to the audience. The 7th episode, entitled ‘Baskets’, works on revealing more personal details about the characters. So what? This makes them seem like more than just actors from the show.

WHAT’S THE CATCH?

The episode begins with a rather hilarious dialogue between Hannah and Gordon. It seems that their relationship has really overcome all difficulties but, obviously, not entirely because they wind each other up every once in a while which complicates everything. So, Gordon and Hannah come off the set after a successful run through and discuss their next tasks for the day. And, of course, each of them is tricking the other into doing something they won’t be happy with. (that’s a twist!). And this is quite a smart move on the part of the writers of the series because it creates an atmosphere for the whole episode.

Gordon is feeling bad about what he did to his daughter – sent her to Clay (he is just terrible at “looping sessions”). At the same time, Hannah is feeling the same. She sent him to the writers’ room, but did not let on about the most “important surprise“. However, Hannah is on set with Clay, where they record his lines for the final edit of one of the episodes of the show. It’s called looping in the film industry, where actors make sure their speech syncs up with the footage already shot. Clay can’t do anything, and he’s just terrible at it. He constantly mispronounces the words and each time it only gets worse (what to do?!).

Then Hannah decides to take a “desperate step” – she decides to cheer Clay up with her speech and make sure that he can do it. And does it work? Yes, but unfortunately, the last line turns out to be so tricky that everything turns into one continuous NIGHTMARE again. And when Timberly comes to the set and records everything perfectly the first time, everything gets even worse (poor Hannah!). Meanwhile, Gordon is trying to “deal with a fire“ that is happening in the writers’ room (WHAT?!). When he gets there, he finds Bree (that was the surprise from Hannah). Gordon can hardly stand the actors being on the set, let alone in his sacred writers’ room.

Nevertheless, Bree says that she will not interfere in this important process, but will just listen and “sit quietly” (that’s hard to believe!). But, of course, she immediately begins to share her “irreplaceable ideas” about what the script of the episode should be. And everything she offers is very similar to the old sitcoms. However far from just similar she actually copied these ideas (give Gordon strength!). She keeps throwing around these absurd ideas, but Gordon can’t stand it. He asks her to stop. And that’s it? No, the writers’ room is slowly and surely turning into a room of rumors and gossip. Bree starts to remember her ex-husband (oh, please, NO!). Gordon’s patience reaches its limit, as does Hannah’s. Both are just furious and don’t think about anything. Eventually, Hannah and Gordon decide to “switch jobs”. Will they able to deal with it this time? We’ll soon see…

IT’S JUST A GAME!

While serious scandals are breaking out on the set and everything is not going so smoothly, Zack invites Reed to a basketball game with his “boys”. It would seem that nothing bad could happen? So, Reed is preparing for a serious game and is really determined to win. But when he comes to this game, he sees not a team of adults (how can this be?). Put simply, Zack plays basketball with kids, and it doesn’t bother him at all. Reed refuses to play, because it will be a dishonest game. And how can he play with them? It’s just ridiculous!

But somehow they persuade him to participate in the game. At the very beginning, Reed doesn’t even try to get involved with the game in any way. But as soon as one of the children says nasty things to him, he enters the game. Reed gets a little too into the game though and forgets that he is playing with KIDS (someone has big problems!). And then a very unpleasant incident occurs – Reed accidentally hits one of the children in the face with a ball. It all ends up very bloody – the hit causes a nosebleed (what a mess!).

And this incident is purely accidentally (not really!) filmed by one of the eyewitnesses. Reed notices this and politely asks her to delete the video. But, not everything is so simple. And then Reed, without hesitation, takes the phone from the girl and erases the video. But this moment is also being filmed on a phone camera. Just AWFUL! Zack comes to Reed’s aid though he does not fully understand what is happening. Thank God these girls turn out to be Zack’s fans. Thus, everything ends peacefully – Zack will go with one of the girls to the prom and will make her dreams come true. It looks like they got off easy!

WE ALL NEED TO CALM DOWN!

While Zack and Reed are “having fun”, things are going awry again on set and in the writers’ room (what is it?). Gordon and Hannah switch places and think that now everything will go like clockwork (don’t even hope for it!). Hannah is trying to fight Bree’s terrible ideas, which she keeps spewing out. And unable to bear it, Hannah rejects every idea suggested. Things aren’t going smoothly for Gordon either. Hannah was so supportive of Clay and tried to help him, but in the end it didn’t work out. Then Gordon decides to change tack – he talks to him rudely and puts pressure on Clay. But “the good cop, bad cop strategy” doesn’t work and things only get worse. And again, in both cases, everything reaches its boiling point.

Bree can’t stand the onslaught of Hannah and leaves the writers’ room, and Clay admits to Gordon that he was never good at recording his lines, but he used to drink and could get through it without a problem, and now he has stopped drinking. Hannah wants to calm Bree down (oh, these actors are so sensitive!). But one of the screenwriters, Selma (Rose Abdoo), gets involved in the case. She talks to Bree and says that it was also difficult for her to break through among screenwriters, especially when everyone else is male. But she didn’t give up and eventually got her way. She advises Bree to put aside all vanity and really dive into work. After apologizing to everyone, Bree returns to the room and suggests a new idea.

Everyone in the room likes this idea, and they even decide to add it to the whiteboard (what an honor!). After Clay’s heartwarming speech, Gordon decides to try a different technique so that he can say his line. And this is the sweetest moment in the entire series that the viewer will see. Gordon approaches Clay and hugs him and tells him that he can try to record a line as soon as he is ready. And then the magic happens – Clay records a line without a single mistake! But do you think that’s it? The creators of the show are really trying to show us the true face of each character and Clay is no exception. This man has really been given a second chance, and he’s trying not to ruin anything. A former alcoholic with a bad reputation really outdoes himself that day.

And before, drinking helped him in this, but now he has to rely on himself and the people around him. Therefore, at the end of the scene, he asks Gordon to hug him a little longer – he really needs it. At the end of the working day, Hannah and Gordon share their victories. Both achieved their goals – Clay recorded his lines (although it was not easy for him!), and Bree came up with an interesting idea for the script. It would seem that everything ended well. Or not? Of course, the creators of the show could not leave the audience without the final scene (necessarily funny!). Gordon decides to go back to the office for his phone, but quickly changes his mind. Hannah tells him that Bree is waiting for him there. After her success in the writers’ room, now she wants to direct (GO, girl!).

THE FINALE BEGINS…

There is only ONE episode left until the end of the first season of this show! But the creators of the series do not slow down. In this series, they touched on really important topics and showed them through the prism of individual characters. It seemed that this show would be just a comedy, but it turned out to be far more than that. And this, without a doubt, attracts even more viewers to it. Of course, we have to pay tribute to the entire cast, even the supporting roles.

All of them play a certain role in this show and do it brilliantly and at the highest level. And, of course, let’s not forget about the superbly written script, where there are no mindless scenes and jokes, just the heart and soul of the show. But what awaits us in the final episode? Will there be a hint of a second season or not? There are so many questions, but there are no answers to them yet. There is no need to hurry, viewers will get answers to all their questions soon enough.
