Move over Twilight, vampires aren’t the only powered-up creatures that can play baseball. Nope. Our latest look at Avengers: Doomsday reveals that superheroes love playing baseball as much as anyone who can thwack a ball at top speeds… And maybe even into outer space. We imagine that would feel satisfying. We really thought that the new World Series Avengers: Doomsday teaser would deliver a full scene of our heroes playing baseball together… but that didn’t happen. Ultimately, we’re kind of underwhelmed by what we saw. But we guess Mister Fantastic did throw a pitch, and that was neat.
Remember when the original Avengers ate shawarma together at the end of the first Avengers movie? How about when they had a party at the beginning of Age of Ultron? Those are the moments that stay in our hearts because they remind us that these super-powered folks aren’t just co-workers; they’re a TEAM… A team of friends. And sadly, we don’t get nearly enough of these slice-of-life moments in MCU movies. But we love them much more than the action-packed fight scenes and major lore dumps. Of course, we love those too, but it all means so much more when we get to see our heroes not just as costumed defenders of good, but as actual humans doing actual human things together. And that’s what we hoped to see in this Doomsday baseball teaser. But instead… we just got an assortment of moments from the movie we’d already witnessed, one new additional awkward scene, and a few out-of-movie shots of Mister Fantastic, Human Torch, and Ben Grimm at a Baseball game. Well, it is what it is.
The new Avengers: Doomsday baseball teaser did feature a new scene where Ant-Man awkwardly put his foot in his mouth, referring to Steve Rogers as Captain America, even though Sam Wilson is now Captain America. Baseball is America’s favorite pastime after all, so we suppose it makes sense to feature the past and present Caps. But we really would have preferred the pair playing baseball instead. Our main takeaway is that it feels like the MLB will have to update its rules after this to say, “No superpowers allowed.” But we bet some superhero baseball games for charity might go a long way, though. In any case, we’re glad to see our heroes having some fun. It can’t just be all doom and gloom.
Avengers: Doomsday will release on December 18, 2026. You can snag your tickets now. Hopefully we’ll have many some actual slice-of-life scenes, perhaps even one that includes baseball, to look forward to when it arrives.
