Deadline reports that Jeff Daniels will star in Bannerman, a drama series based on John R. Maxim’s spy novels, developed by Shane Black and Craig Silverstein.
Bannerman TV Series
Bannerman centers on “the eponymous Paul Bannerman, a lethal covert operative who convinces a group of the world’s most deadly assassins to quit the spy game for a chance to lead normal lives in the suburbs of Connecticut. Old enemies, bad habits, a paranoid government and an unrelenting ex-cop will make retirement their most difficult mission yet.“
But Daniels won’t be playing Bannerman. He’s set to play Raymond Lesko, “infamous NYPD detective, currently working a hotel security gig after being thrown off the force for taking revenge following the murder of his ex-partner, who still haunts him to this day. Lesko is pulled out of retirement when he learns that his daughter – the only person alive he truly cares about – is dating a man who may even be more dangerous than he is.” More casting news will follow.
Black co-wrote the first episode and will executive-produce and direct the first two episodes. Silverstein is the writer, showrunner and executive producer.
The five novels in the Bannerman series include The Bannerman Solution, The Bannerman Effect, Bannerman’s Law, Bannerman’s Promise, and Bannerman’s Ghosts.
Netflix & AMC Joining Forces
The series is the first project to emerge from the co-production agreement between AMC Studios and Netflix. The series will premiere on AMC in the U.S. and Canada, and will be available to stream on Netflix 90 days after the season finale airs on AMC. The two companies will jointly debut each episode in Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, while Netflix will carry the show exclusively everywhere else in the world.
“Bannerman is a smart, high-octane thrill ride of a series, powered by an extraordinary creative team,” said Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, in a statement. “This is the perfect premium drama to kick off our first co-production with Netflix, and we are thrilled to continue evolving and expanding our partnership by jointly developing and producing select original series for our respective platforms.“
