Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to! VisionQuest officially premieres today, October 13, on Disney+, bringing Paul Bettany back as Vision for another chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new series concludes the trilogy that began with WandaVision and Agatha All Along in 2024. This time, the story explores Vision’s search for identity, his complicated past, and an unexpected family connection.
Paul Bettany and James Spader shared Vision’s self-discovery journey recently in a Disney interview. You can get all of the details here!
We are sharing a few highlights ahead of tonight’s premiere.
Vision Faces His Past
After his reboot, Vision lives quietly in Edinburgh and works at a pub while struggling to understand memories of his former life.
His search for answers brings him face-to-face with familiar artificial intelligence personalities, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., J.A.R.V.I.S., and E.D.I.T.H.
But one of the biggest surprises is Ultron’s return, voiced by James Spader, who last appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015.
Ultron has spent years absorbing human knowledge and culture, making him an even more complicated presence in Vision’s life.
A Surprising Family Connection
The series also introduces Thomas Shepherd, played by Ruaridh Mollica, a young man who may be Vision’s reincarnated son.
When bounty hunter Paladin kidnaps Thomas to lure Vision out of hiding, the two connect through shared memories and unanswered questions.
“Vision is told he has a human son, and it must be impossible to believe. And yet, there he is,” Bettany said. “My eldest son is not mine biologically, and yet, impossibly, he feels like he is. I feel no difference between my children in that regard. That was a really helpful thing for me to think about [during the filming of VisionQuest] — that he feels like he’s mine.”
Bettany explained the emotional heart of the series, saying: “Vision has a contract with the audience, and it’s that he is always in a state of change and self-discovery.”
This vision for Vision has always been clear.
Vision has a contract with the audience, and it’s that he is always in a state of change and self-discovery. When I meet fans, they are almost universally younger. It’s because they are in the same business of trying to discover who they are — and it’s urgent business, their identities.
Of course, the culmination of this show is the acceptance of who he is and what has happened to him. It’s the thing that gives him the strength in the finale. That was always the plan in terms of the story arc, and I think we’ve delivered a very satisfying show.
Now Streaming on Disney+
VisionQuest debuts with two episodes on Tuesday, October 13, exclusively on Disney+.
