WHO IS ULTRON?
Founding Avenger and brilliant scientist Hank Pym built Ultron while he was developing intelligent robots. Although Ultron’s first body was essentially a cylinder with short arms and wheels, the machine quickly became self-aware, hypnotizing his creator into forgetting him. Since Ultron’s brain was based on Pym’s, he shared his creator’s mental instability, which quickly soured into a hatred for the size-changing Avenger and all organic life.
Ultron transferred his electronic mind into several increasingly more formidable bodies, culminating with Ultron-5, his first humanoid form. When Ultron debuted as a member of the Masters of Evil, he posed as the Crimson Cowl in AVENGERS (1963) #58 by Roy Thomas and John Buscema. Ultron eventually revealed his identity, but the Avengers defeated him and he swore to get revenge on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Over his many encounters with the Avengers, Ultron continuously upgraded to new bodies with an ever-growing number of features. Ultron developed a wide array of superhuman skills across his various forms, including super-strength and several types of energy-based weapons. In any of his bodies, Ultron’s cunning and ruthlessness make him one of the most dangerous threats in the Marvel Universe.
