This is why we can’t have nice things. Just as the entire world is taking solace from our grief over Dolly Parton’s death last month by remembering the seemingly ceaseless good she brought into the world, a very ugly legal fight has broken out between her security expert nephew and her estate. With decidedly un-Dolly-like accusations including violent threats, blackmail, and reports of arms dealing and creepy militia activity, the whole mess only reinforces Parton’s legendary benevolence.
The unfolding legal shitshow centers on one Bryan Seaver, who, in addition to being the son of Parton’s sister Cassie, has overseen security for his famous aunt and her various business holdings for some 20 years. In filings by Parton’s longtime manager Danny Nozell, Seaver (who first announced Parton’s death in a heartfelt video) is now accused of waging what Variety calls “a campaign of coercion, extortion and violent threats” designed to force Parton’s estate to pay him unspecified amounts or face, well, we’ll let Seaver’s leaked texts and emails explain.
