Mohsin Khan reveals Mushtaq Khan kept shooting till September 4 despite lung cancer and says the veteran actor “went away smiling” in hospital.
Mohsin Khan says father Mushtaq Khan continued shooting till September 4 despite his lung cancer battle.
Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan died in Mumbai on Thursday evening after battling lung cancer for over a year. He was 75. Known for films including Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Welcome and Bala, Mushtaq had continued working even while undergoing treatment.
His son Mohsin Khan, a filmmaker, has now spoken about the actor’s final days and revealed that Mushtaq had been responding to treatment before his condition deteriorated over the last 10 days.
‘He Lived A Very Good Life’
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Mohsin said his father had been unwell for more than a year.
“My father was ill for over a year, and we were getting the treatment done. He was responding well to it but in the last 10 days things got beyond control,” he said.
Mohsin added that Mushtaq had been recovering before his health suddenly worsened.
“He was recovering but eventually it’s Allah’s wish. He lived a very good life and despite being in hospital he went away smiling,” he said.
Mushtaq had remained professionally active despite his illness. According to Mohsin, the actor last faced the camera on September 4 at Madh Island in Mumbai.
Mushtaq Khan Last Shot For Abir Singh’s Debut Film
Mohsin revealed that his father’s final shoot involved Rajat Bedi, Chunky Pandey and Rajpal Yadav.
“He shot with Rajat Bedi sir, Chunkey Pandey sir and Rajpal Yadav sir in Shera’s (Salman Khan’s bodyguard) son Tiger’s (Abir Singh) debut film Tarzan,” he said.
The actor also has other projects awaiting release. Mohsin said Mushtaq worked in the Telugu film Dada, directed by Jaat filmmaker Gopichand Malineni, which is expected to release in December.
He also appeared in Mohsin’s yet-untitled Hindi-Marathi film with Prathamesh Parab.
“He has also acted in my Hindi-Marathi untitled film with actor Prathamesh Parab that we intend to release in a few months,” Mohsin said.
Mushtaq had additionally shot for The Vvaan, although Mohsin said he was unsure whether his father’s scenes had been retained in the final film.
“He had shot for this weekend release film The Vvaan, I’m not aware if his portion is retained in the film or not,” he added.
Mushtaq Khan’s Film With Son Mohsin To Be A Tribute
Mohsin, who has produced and directed projects including Chhutta Nahi Hai, Delivery Boy, Vada Paav, So Long Valley and Dear Lottery, said his father had not frequently acted in his projects but remained closely involved with his work.
“Dad has not worked with me much but he has always been present during my shoot and promotions,” he said.
The father-son duo worked together on two television commercials, including one with Rajpal Yadav and another with Paresh Rawal.
Mushtaq later took on a proper role in Mohsin’s Hindi-Marathi film. However, he died before completing the dubbing.
“In my Hindi-Marathi film he did a proper role for me for the first time. We have shot the film and unfortunately, he has not dubbed for it. It will be a tribute to him,” Mohsin said.
Born in 1950, Mushtaq spent 51 years in the entertainment industry. According to Mohsin, his father worked in more than 300 films and OTT projects and appeared in over 1,000 television episodes during his career.
