Let’s Talk About Disney’s Incredible 2028 Film Lineup

As I reflect on the 2026 D23 Expo, my mind keeps going back to the film schedule. Since I ostensibly write about theme parks for a living, that’s probably not a good thing.

Then again, the Disney Flywheel needs excellent content to fuel it.

Let’s just say Disney struck oil with all its bombshell announcements.

Let’s talk about Disney’s incredible 2028 film lineup.

What’s the Big Deal?

Keeping in mind that nothing ever plays out the way Hollywood insiders expect, Disney’s got a loaded 2028. Sure, some of the projected release dates will change over time.

A few of these titles probably won’t even come out in 2028. If I were Disney, I’d hold back a few until 2029 because the current lineup is overkill.

I was just discussing this topic on my media podcast, but the topic was Paramount. David Ellison has promised that if Paramount buys Warner Bros. Discovery, they’ll release 30 movies a year.

Nobody believes them because that’s a pace of a new movie every two weeks.

Actually, it’s a bit more than that, meaning that Paramount/WBD would release new films every week for two months.

That’s just terrible business, as nobody can market all that product effectively. Disney would be in the same boat, albeit less dramatically, if all these movies come out as scheduled.

Even so, wow! Let’s evaluate a murderer’s row of announced projects.

Ghost Market – March 10^th, 2028

“So, it’s basically a movie about hungry ghosts. A lot of crazy stuff happens.” I love a good elevator pitch, and Ghost Market definitely has that.

But don’t take my word for it. Here’s the star of the film saying, “It’s good. You’ll like it.”

Disney showed an even longer clip of this Pixar movie during its presentation:

“Do you guys take, like, Apple Pay?” is such a terrific joke, and the audience eats it up. Upon first blush, Ghost Market seems like the kind of daring storytelling we’ve come to expect from Pixar.

Among the first five films I’m about to discuss, I’m least optimistic about its box office.

That’s because Pixar original stories have struggled during the 2020s.

In terms of my personal excitement level, this is EXACTLY the kind of film I want Pixar to make.

Tangled – March 31^st, 2028

These next four films all should earn $1 billion at the box office. I mention this because Disney had three of these blockbusters in 2024 and again in 2025.

Thus far in 2026, Disney has only released one, although Avengers: Doomsday will be another. So, the fact that four movies could do it in four months in 2028 is pretty incredible.

Obviously, a lot can happen between then and now, as we saw with Moana. That live-action remake failed to capture the whimsy of the original film.

Tangled could meet the same fate, since the original is a true masterpiece. Such an outcome would shock me, though, and Kathryn Hahn’s the reason why.

In Agatha All Along, the actress charmed viewers with her special blend of villainy. Now that she’s playing Mother Gothel, I expect more of the same, only ramped up to the nth degree.

On paper, Tangled strikes me as the perfect combination of excellent story and even better casting.

X-Men – May 5^th, 2028

Here’s the one Disney needs to be massive, but we all know that’s not assured. Marvel’s recent updates to reboot the MCU just haven’t gone well.

A year ago at this time, The Fantastic Four: First Steps vanished from theaters. That film’s total box office of $521.9 million is half of what Avengers: Endgame earned in five days.

The worst part is that it was the most successful of Disney’s three MCU movies last year. Yes, the MCU has been in dire straits, but Sony may have just changed all that.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become one of the biggest films ever. With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, the stars may be aligning once more.

Given the crowd reaction for X-Men’s casting announcement, the project’s in great shape. Films really need just two things to succeed: awareness and excitement.

This movie already has both, even though it hasn’t started filming yet. As long as X-Men is good, its box office success is assured.

Lilo & Stitch 2 – May 26^th, 2028

The general rule of thumb about sequels is that they open bigger but possess worse legs. In other words, fans rush to see the film on opening weekend. Afterward, the crowds vanish.

I strongly suspect that Lilo & Stitch 2 will avoid that fate for a simple reason. Fans have clamored for a true sequel since 2002. Disney teased us with half-hearted follow-ups instead.

We got a television series and multiple straight-to-video releases instead. Had the Lilo & Stitch live-action remake failed, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

Thankfully, that film earned $1 billion at the box office, and now we’re getting Angel.

At a minimum, Disney’s toy sales will increase dramatically next year.

Personally, I think that with Chris Sanders telling the story, Lilo & Stitch 2 will surpass the original.

The Incredibles 3 – June 16^th, 2028

Speaking of more successful sequels, The Incredibles 2 nearly doubled the original’s box office. While that’s a remarkable feat, I believe that The Incredibles 3 will pull a Toy Story 5.

In case you don’t know, the latest Toy Story film became the most successful in the franchise.

Given the immense sustained popularity of The Incredibles, I expect the same here.

Entire families at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party frequently sport Incredibles costumes.

Ghost Rider – July 8th, 2028

I just mentioned how much Marvel has struggled during the 2020s. Save for Spider-Man, it’s mostly been an uphill climb for the MCU.

So, I honestly don’t quite know what to think of Ghost Rider and won’t for another year. Before this film debuts, Star Wars: Starfighter will have been released.

That Star Wars movie features the same star, Ryan Gosling, and director, Shawn Levy. The Starfighter project should serve as a bellwether of sorts for Ghost Rider.

If fans love Gosling that much, both films should perform quite well. Otherwise, the hope is that fans will be more forgiving of Marvel than Star Wars by then.

On this list, I’m least enthusiastic about Ghost Rider, but a good trailer would completely change my mind.

Clay – November 22^nd, 2028

Then, we have Clay, which looks absolutely adorable. As with Ghost Market, this title’s elevator pitch absolutely slays.

The worst potential mentor in the village must keep a rambunctious infant alive. In this case, the infant happens to be a literal ball of clay, which adds to the degree of difficulty.

Walt Disney Animation Studios almost always releases an epic movie each November. Clay has staked that claim for 2028, and I’m hopeful it’s more Encanto versus Strange World or Wish.

I mean in terms of box office. In terms of movie quality, I quite liked Strange World.

Black Panther 3 – December 15^th, 2028

Finally, we have Denzel Washington’s upcoming blockbuster…Black Panther 3? Oh, it’s real. The actor accidentally spilled the beans about this one before Marvel confirmed it.

You may recall that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever showed Shuri claiming the mantle. Now, in 2028, T’Challa’s child will come of age and follow his aunt as Black Panther.

Presumably, Denzel either stands in the way of that happening or helps it along. The most recent Black Panther movie performed quite well toward the end of the pandemic.

So, I’m comfortable calling the third film a lock for $1 billion in box office, too. Folks, that’s a total of FIVE titles I believe will earn at least $1 billion in box office for Disney.

Importantly, I’m not even factoring in 20^th Century Studios releases in this. The only titles I’ve mentioned are standard Disney/Pixar titles.

Disney has a real chance to register its biggest box office year ever in 2028.

Given the company’s box office struggles during the 2020s, that would be an incredible comeback story.
