Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner Finally Meets John Stewart In DCU’s New Lanterns Episode 6 Trailer
The DC Universe is finally staging another crossover.
The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate is building out James Gunn’s superhero franchise across the big and small screens. While Clayface will be the next major theatrical release for DC Studios, HBO is tackling the Green Lantern Corps, and the stakes are starting to get even higher.
The trailer for Lanterns episode 6 has been released, confirming that Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner will be showing up in the next episode. The footage also shows him finally meeting Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart. Check it out below:
In an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan, Fillion opened up on the fact that Guy is, so far, the character in the DCU who appears in most movies and series, including the Lanterns TV show, across Gunn’s franchise. The Rookie lead shared, “To me, that means there’s a chance that maybe I’ll continue to be employed throughout my twilight years. That’s my hope, at least. I like the idea that he is the connective tissue. He’s the thread that weaves throughout the fabric of this universe. If you’re existing, if you’re a character in this universe, if you’re watching this universe, he’s in the back there somewhere. If you live in the DC Universe, you’re gonna you’re gonna be inundated with this guy… See what he did there?”
He added, “But why is he the guy? Listen, I think if we’re just kind of logically thinking it out, I think Guy Gardner is someone who embraces marketing. I think he understands the the importance of a brand, the brand for LordTech, the brand of the Justice Gang, the brand of Green Lanterns, the brand that is Guy Gardner.” Fillion also teased that “I think he is wary. I think he has a social media presence. I think he understands TikTok trends. I think he’s got his finger on the pulse. He has financial goals. He wants to open a bar. He wants to do things, and his appearance, how he’s perceived, that’s important to him. So I think he’s out there in the public eye. I think maybe that might be one of the reasons he exists across the the projects he exists.”

While they will finally get to meet in the HBO drama, Pierre and Fillion are also set to return for Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow movie, which is slated to open in theaters on July 9, 2027. As principal photography has wrapped, time will tell if Lanterns will set the stage for John and Guy’s involvement in the Superman continuation.
When Pierre spoke with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan, he stressed how important it was for him to get to do the series first before crossing over into the films. The British lead explained that “I can’t say much, but what I can say is what a gift it was to have had six months consecutively of six day weeks and a minimum of 12 hour days to live with John and excavate his character before going into Man of Tomorrow.”
He elaborated with “I think my experience on Man of Tomorrow with the wonderful team over there would have been a lot different had I not done the HBO series first. I would have gone in there and been discovering in real time, in a very quick pace, who John was, but I already knew who John was going in. Of course, there’s endless amounts of excavation to do now and always beyond this point. But I went in there with a calmness and a steady hand that I’m very grateful for.”
