Netflix’s next big South African shows: Weddings, blind love and Diwali chaos

Netflix’s next big South African shows: Weddings, blind love and Diwali chaos

If you thought South African entertainment couldn’t get any more interesting, Netflix has a few things coming that might change your weekend viewing plans.

From a celebrity wedding kept under wraps for an entire year to a dating experiment shrouded in secrecy and a comedy promising plenty of cultural flavour, Netflix is bringing a fresh mix of South African stories to the screen.

And some of the stars behind the upcoming shows are finally talking about what viewers can expect.

What is Anele and Buzza’s Netflix show about?

Anele Mgudlwa and Bonelela “Buzza James” Mgudlwa could have shared their wedding photos and videos immediately after their nuptials.

They chose not to.

Instead, the couple kept their memories private for an entire year, despite having more than 10,000 photographs from their celebrations.

Now, viewers will finally get an inside look at their wedding journey in the upcoming Netflix docu-soap, “Stars and Vows: Anele & Buzza”.

Speaking to IOL at Netflix’s 10 Year Anniversary celebration, Buzza explained that waiting made the memories more meaningful for the couple.

Rather than seeing their wedding footage within hours or days of the celebrations, they are now effectively marking a year since the special moments took place.

The couple also kept their guest list strictly limited to 300 people and maintained confidentiality around the wedding until the project’s release.

How did Anele and Buzza keep their wedding secret?

Keeping thousands of wedding photographs and videos away from the public is no easy task.

But Anele and Buzza managed to keep their memories under wraps, with their guests adhering to strict non-disclosure requirements.

When asked how she managed to get everyone — including older guests — to keep quiet, Anele simply responded: “Oh, people listen to me.”

Buzza had another explanation: “I think people are scared.”

Their traditional wedding ceremony took place in late April 2025, followed by a private white wedding in November 2025.

What was it like for Anele and Buzza to plan their wedding?

While wedding planning can put relationships under pressure, Anele said the experience ultimately strengthened the couple’s friendship.

The pair were already good friends, but working through the wedding plans brought them even closer.

Anele joked that she would add items to the wedding plans while Buzza removed them — leaving her to convince him that everything would eventually make sense.

Rather than constantly clashing over decisions, she said they approached the process as a team.

When is Love Is Blind South Africa coming to Netflix?

Another highly anticipated Netflix title is “Love Is Blind South Africa”, hosted by hosted by Dineo and Solo Langa.

The couple filmed the show last year and have since had to sit quietly while viewers speculated about their involvement.

That secrecy was made even more challenging by a non-disclosure agreement.

Dineo revealed that the announcement date for the show was changed four times, meaning the pair had to remain tight-lipped even as speculation continued online.

Is Love Is Blind South Africa really about finding love?

For viewers questioning whether the participants are genuinely looking for relationships, Dineo and Solo have a clear message: yes.

The couple said the show is genuinely focused on finding love and that this is at the foundation of the experiment.

Having met each other on a blind date themselves, they said being involved in a show centred on finding love felt like a natural fit.

And according to them, the experience of filming the show was incredible.

What is How to Ruin Diwali about?

Netflix is also bringing “How to Ruin Diwali” to viewers, with an all-star cast led by Rosemary Zimu and Kyle Clark.

For Clark, the production represents his first lead role.

Speaking at the Netflix anniversary celebration, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and described the production as an “incredible blend of cultures”.

He also highlighted the importance of seeing Indian stories represented on screen and described the story as something beautiful to tell.

Why Rosemary Zimu says How to Ruin Diwali will surprise viewers

Zimu is stepping into the lead of a comedy — despite joking that she does not consider herself a funny person.

But she believes viewers are in for surprises.

According to Zimu, some of the people audiences least expect to be funny will deliver performances that could have viewers crying with laughter.

Between a closely guarded celebrity wedding, a dating experiment that has kept its secrets for months and a comedy bringing cultures together, Netflix is offering viewers plenty to look forward to.
