Following the announcement of Cameron Crovetti becoming a series regular, as well as Valorie Curry and Susan Heywards involvement in the upcoming fourth season of The Boys, many fans have been wondering who else will join the show as a Supe. Similar to Crovetti, Curry and Heywards will be joining as original characters Firecracker and Sister Sage respectively. As a result, this has left some wondering whether or not they will be filling in roles from characters in the comics, and to that extent which Supe from the comic would appear in the show.
It wouldn’t be the first time new characters introduced in the show would act as replacements for characters from the comic. Notably, Translucent was created for the show to take the place of Jack from Jupiter, and Drummer Boy was changed from the comics to become Supersonic in the show. Given the few religious elements within the show, Sister Sage could be the show’s equivalent of Holy Mary, a woman whom Drummer Boy had an affair with. Still, it’s interesting to discuss the possibilities of who could appear, and how it would fit into the story.
With that said, one of the characters from the comics that could show up as the embodiment of religion being corrupted for profit would be Oh Father, a leader of a group known as ‘Sidekicks 12’, comprising primarily of young Supes, whom Oh Father sexually abused on an almost regular basis. It could very well be possible that the character could be introduced as the new major antagonist of this season, similar to Stormfront and Soldier Boy of the previous seasons. It would make sense as well, as in the comics, Oh Father is considered one of the most powerful and influential Supes, although not quite to the extent of Homelander. Considering Homelander’s image is beginning to falter in the overall publics eye, and he is slowly losing control of the Seven, having figure like Oh Father come in would certainly create an interesting dynamic. Given what Kripke has talked about with Season 4’s themes focusing on politics, it’d be more than likely that Oh Father would become an ally to Homelander, given the more right-wing esque behavior of Homelander’s side. That said, in terms of power set, not much of Oh Father’s abilities were put on display in the comics, with the only real abilities seen being enhanced agility, strength, durability, and flight. Still, much like Soldier Boy, it is possible that his powerset could be enhanced or changed to match the themes and ideas of Season 4.
Another Supe from the comics that many have long hoped would appear is Robert Vernon, aka Tek Knight. As could be guessed, Tek Knight is a parody of the popular Armored Avenger, Iron Man, albeit with a caveat of a heavy sex addiction. As a result, he has a unique place in the Boys as a Supe who doesn’t have powers, and has become something of a fan favorite from the comics. That said, it’s uncertain exactly how that would translate to the show, which is generally more down to earth when compared to the comic. Perhaps he takes a special V Formula to enhance his durability as he takes flight in his suit of armor. It could also be possible that, given the fact that he is rich, perhaps he could be a top contributor to Vought, perhaps even being the one creating formulas for Temp V. While possible for him to appear in Season 4, how his presence would tie into the themes of the show is a bit more uncertain. Perhaps he could start off as a loyal Vought employee, who would become jaded from his work after Homelander’s take over, showing that there are people between the two sides of Homelander and Starlight, that don’t subscribe themselves to one or the other, and are simply trying to do what is either right for themselves, or society as a whole, especially considering Kripke’s statement that people within both groups aren’t entirely innocent.
Perhaps one of the most unique choices to include for the show, especially in terms of challenging Butcher’s views of Supes, would be the inclusion of the group Super Duper. In the context of the comics, Super Duper is among the most pure-hearted people within the comics, with most of their deeds being small tasks on a neighborhood level. While this does come from their relatively weak powerset, it offers a refreshing reprive from the comic’s unrelentingly negative take on most Supes. Still, after their introduction, it wasn’t long before we’d see that negativity reer it’s ugly head again with Malchemical’s introduction.
Malchemical is easily one of the most deplorable villains in the comic, given his frequent abuse of each member of Super Duper, resulting in Hughie confronting him as he is surveilling them. Unlike most other Supes as well, Malchemical has one of the most versitile power sets in the comic, being able to shapeshift into practically anything. His inclusion would likely make him one of the most formidable adversaries of the Boys in the show, as his powerset could allow him to blend into a crowd, while also causing many heavy casualties, which given the heavy political divide forming in the show, could likely create incidents which would go to benefit Homelander’s cause.
Of course, it’s all entirely possible that a new character will be created to fill in the role of the new Supe antagonist left by Soldier Boy at the end of Season 3. Still, regardless of what choices are made, it’s clear that any Supe included in Season 4 will be in service of the themes and story that Kripke and crew will set out to tell, and given the high quality of the previous three seasons, it’s safe to say no matter the Supe included, The Boys will still be one of the best shows to watch.
