In recent years, the titles available to stream on Apple TV are finally getting the appreciation they deserve. From sci-fi hits to gripping thrillers, there are so many perfect Apple TV shows with no bad seasons, and even those that have their weaker moments are worth checking out anyway. While there are some shows to watch that aren’t made by the streaming service itself, Apple TV’s original series have generally been even more popular.
Six years after it began, the hilarious sports comedy Ted Lasso has finally made its highly anticipated return with Season 4. Ted Lasso‘s Season 3 ending just over three years ago wrapped up the show’s storylines with a neat bow beautifully, and while many of us were hesitant about its comeback because of its strong finale, the data does not lie: Ted Lasso is better than ever.
‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Beats Out Apple TV Hits Like ‘Silo’ and ‘Foundation’ Days After Its Return From a 3-Year Hiatus
Even though we’re only two weeks into Ted Lasso‘s Season 4 release schedule, it’s astounding how successful the Apple TV comedy has been so far. Of course, many of us knew that it would be popular. Ted Lasso‘s heartbreaking storylines and compelling characters kept us entertained for years, and that even includes Season 3, which, despite gaining less traction than previous installments, was still watched by a lot of people. Many, myself included, were committed to watching until the end, and looking back, I don’t think Ted Lasso Season 3 is as bad as some people remember.
Amazingly, the show already has a solid achievement under its belt. Ted Lasso‘s Season 4 premiere shattered streaming records, reaching the top of Apple TV’s charts as the most-watched title in the United States from August 4-5. Nielsen’s streaming data also showed that in that two-day window, Ted Lasso Season 4’s “Home” accumulated almost 300 million viewing minutes. “Home” has a runtime of 42 minutes, which means that around 7,142,857 people tuned in to watch Ted reunite with Rebecca, Higgins, and Keeley. All in two days!
For months now, Apple TV’s streaming charts have been dominated by titles like Silo, Foundation, and Cape Fear. Up until Ted Lasso took over, the Anya Taylor-Joy action thriller Lucky was expected to take the top spot. However, after maintaining a steady position on the chart since its release on July 15, Lucky reached number 2 last week, but Coach Ted’s antics were just enough to snatch the number 1 position.
But will Ted Lasso Season 4’s debut success be the same for the rest of the season? Perhaps, perhaps not. At the time of writing (August 15), FlixPatrol reports that Ted Lasso is currently number 2 worldwide on Apple TV’s streaming charts, with Silo managing to regain number 1 and Lucky sitting at number 3. While it’s a shame that Ted Lasso has been pushed out of the top spot, this could change next Wednesday after the next episode drops, and the fact that the show is still in second place, ten days after its Season 4 premiere, is still very impressive.
