Since her breakout in the 1990s, Linda Cardellini has never stopped. Her filmography includes such iconic shows as ER, Bloodline, Mad Men, Dead to Me and feature films like the Oscar-winning Green Book and Brokeback Mountain, along with joining the Marvel Universe as Laura Barton, Hawkeye’s wife in the Avengers movies, and opposite Will Ferrell in the Daddy’s Home movies. She also scored in the surprise horror hit The Curse of La Llorona and so much more.
She joins me for this week’s episode of my Deadline video series The Actor’s Side, where we talk about her current Emmy nomination as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology, or Television Movie for HBO’s DTF St Louis. It is her third Emmy nom following one for her guest-star role in Mad Men as Sylvia, love interest of Don Draper, and for her Netflix series Dead to Me opposite Christina Applegate. But she tells me the roles she gets the most recognition from are not ones you may realize. People still come up to her recognizing her from 1999’s short-lived but now cult hit series Freaks and Geeks, and as Velma Dinkley in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies, although she assures us she will not be in the upcoming reboot.
We talk about all the above including those sex scenes with Jason Bateman in DTF and a detailed description of how they were shot — on the first day as well! And then there is working in that umpire outfit that we also get the 411 on. We also talk about her upcoming projects including Peacock’s Crystal Lake in which she plays Pam Voorhees, mother of masked serial killer Jason in this Friday the 13th prequel series hitting in October, and the upcoming psychological horror film They Know in which she stars opposite Bill Hader who is making his feature directorial debut with it.
And just what was the very first television show Cardellini ever appeared on in 1994? Hint: the series is still running but she wasn’t acting on it.
