While all eyes are fixated on Avengers: Doomsday, which will bring Marvel’s Multiverse Saga to a close, work is already underway on the MCU’s next chapter.
As Kevin Feige previously explained, the post-Secret Wars MCU will transition into what is being referred to as the Mutant Saga.

The expectation is that the X-Men will take center stage.
Jake Schreier Will Usher in the Mutant Saga
While the exact details of Marvel’s plans for the X-Men remain unclear, we do know that Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier will helm the team’s first film.

Previously, Schreier spoke about giving the iconic Marvel heroes a “fresh start.”
“I would say that we are aiming to do something that feels like a fresh start and going for something that feels new. And, really, something that Kevin has pushed for is this idea of, ‘What can we do within this world?’ It’s such a massive world, and I’ve spent the year just rereading a ton of it, like the entire [Chris] Claremont run and so many different … the great work that Grant Morrison did,” he said.

“There’s so many different interesting takes within this world. And that shouldn’t be a clue as to anything. That’s just for background and just to live in the world and how deep that world is. Just thinking about, ‘What are the corners of it? What are the sides of it that maybe haven’t been done so brilliantly in so many of these great movies that we can … [that] were areas that we can explore where it feels like we’re doing something new?’”

Now, we have a major update on the future of the X-Men.
Samara Weaving Is Emma Frost
According to a new report from Deadline, Samara Weaving has been cast as Emma Frost in the upcoming X-Men film.

While Emma Frost is one of Marvel’s most popular mutants, she has largely been absent from previous live-action adaptations of the franchise.
Most notably, January Jones portrayed the character in X-Men: First Class.

According to the Deadline report, Marvel has been actively casting the X-Men this summer, with Weaving securing the role shortly after the Fourth of July.
By all accounts, everything appears to be moving full steam ahead for the X-Men’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
