This year has spawned multiple franchise revivals and cinematic comebacks. Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian and Grogu officially brought Star Wars back to cinemas for the first time since 2019, leveraging the immense popularity of Din Djarin and his diminutive sidekick into a global theatrical event, while Mattel’s iconic sword-and-sorcery epic shattered its nearly 40-year big-screen hiatus with Travis Knight’s live-action Masters of the Universe, serving as a complete reboot of the classic ’80s franchise. Both movies were positioned by their respective studios to be modern blockbuster powerhouses, but ultimately stumbled at the box office.
The Mandalorian and Grogu concluded its theatrical run with $345 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of $165 million, cementing it as the lowest-grossing live-action film in Disney Star Wars history. Meanwhile, Knight’s Masters of the Universe reboot suffered an even harsher fate, collecting just $113 million globally against a steep $170 million budget. Both movies rapidly pivoted to streaming and home video releases, finding a glimmer of redemption that had previously eluded them in theaters. Last week, Din Djarin and Din Grogu’s galaxy-spanning adventure topped the Blu-ray bestsellers list, claiming the Top 4 spots with its various physical media offerings – including the colossal $200+ Beskar Collector’s Edition.
Just a few days later, Masters of the Universe appears to be following the same path, as the fantasy epic has blasted straight to the top of the Blu-ray sales chart, officially dethroning The Mandalorian and Grogu to claim the coveted top spot. According to Blu-ray.com‘s bestsellers list, the 4K Blu-ray release of Masters of the Universe currently leads the rankings ahead of other major blockbusters of 2026 like Obsession, Project Hail Mary, and Michael. The physical media package is an Amazon exclusive steelbook, making it a highly sought-after collectible as it will not be available from other retailers. It does not have an officially listed release date as yet, but its strong pre-order sales have propelled it to the highest-ranking position on the chart.
Masters of the Universe‘s forthcoming 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray rollout heavily capitalizes on its streaming momentum. The movie debuted at number one on the Prime Video streaming charts within 24 hours of its release, thriving on the interest of nostalgic fans and casual moviegoers who bypassed it in cinemas. Its home-viewing dominance has proven that the true power of Eternia lives on through streaming and physical media, and that Prince Adam’s journey to becoming He-Man is still a force capable of capturing audiences all these years later, as people return to Castle Grayskull to witness another epic battle between good and evil.
The reboot reimagines the iconic franchise with a plot that follows Prince Adam (played by Nicholas Galitzine) who crash-lands on Earth and loses his magical Sword of Power. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor (Jared Leto). But to defeat such a maniacal villain, Adam must unravel the mysteries of his past, team up with his trusted allies, and embrace his destiny to become He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe. His quest seems to have been partially successful, as his latest adventure fared well with critics and audiences, earning 67% and 86% respectively, solidifying the beloved hero’s return as a triumphant rebirth.
