Sports fans across South Africa can start clearing their schedules because Canal+ has confirmed the live broadcast rights for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, guaranteeing front-row access to one of the biggest sporting spectacles of the year.
Running until August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland, the 11-day multi-sport showcase brings together elite athletes from around the world.
More than 3 000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations, including 500 African contenders, will be competing across 10 sports and 6 para-sports, including athletics, swimming, track cycling, 3×3 basketball, artistic gymnastics, boxing, judo, netball, weightlifting and bowls, making this year’s edition an absolute must-watch for sports lovers across the continent.
Events will be held at four world-class venues: Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Scottish Event Campus and Glasgow International Arena & Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
This year, several major sports were omitted from the Games, including badminton, hockey, rugby sevens, table tennis, squash, cricket, wrestling, triathlon and road cycling, to lower operational costs and fit the timeline.

In big news for local sports fans, Canal+ and SuperSport are making the entire tournament broadly accessible.
You won’t need the top-tier package to back our local stars; coverage will be available to Access package subscribers and above across DStv, DStv Stream, GOtv, and GOtv Stream.
Channel line-up breakdown
SuperSport is rolling out two main dedicated channels devoted entirely to the Commonwealth Games. One channel will feature comprehensive coverage of major global events, while the second feed will be curated specifically to focus on Africa’s top medal hopefuls.
When track finals, swimming events and court battles overlap during peak evening times, extra linear and streaming overflow channels will jump into action so you don’t miss a single podium finish.
Southern African viewers can look forward to dedicated regional broadcasts on SS Variety 3 and SS Variety 4 (rebranded during the tournament to bring focused coverage).
A third dedicated stream will provide specialised coverage for Portuguese-speaking audiences and Mozambican athletes.
