Jason Statham’s 116-Minute “John Wick Meets Taken” Action Thriller Continues to Dominate Streaming

Jason Statham is constantly saving people from the baddies who don’t know who they’re messing with. It’s a formula that works and will likely remain so as long as the actor continues to play the tireless vigilante who always gets pushed to the edge. In one of his most recent films, Statham combines the traits of the legendary mercenary John Wick with a pinch of Liam Neeson’s “never mess with his family” franchise, Taken. This clever blend of tropes has resulted in an outstanding 116-minute action thriller that has become one of streaming’s recent landmarks.

‘A Working Man’ Is Statham’s Second Collaboration With an Action Legend

A Working Man sees Statham play Levon Cade, a British former Commando living in the U.S. who’s trying to leave his violent past behind. Cade works in construction, and he has built a strong relationship with Joe and Carla Garcia, the family that runs the business, and who are aware of his PTSD.

Jenny, Joe and Carla’s daughter, is kidnapped by the Russian mafia, and the family has no other option but to ask Cade for help. He refuses at first, but because of how well they’ve treated him, he ultimately decides to find and rescue her with the help of Gunny Lefferty, a former Marine and his closest ally.

A Working Man is based on Levon’s Trade by Chuck Dixon, a series that follows the character through high-stakes confrontations in more than ten books. It was directed by David Ayer from a script that he wrote alongside the iconic Sylvester Stallone. It is Statham’s second collaboration with Stallone, as he previously appeared in Homefront, also written by Stallone and originally conceived as a Rambo sequel.

Statham’s ‘A Working Man’ Is a Major Hit Across Multiple Streaming Platforms

The film was released in March 2025, after suffering a title change (it was supposed to have the same title as its source material) and a release date postponement (the original theatrical release date was in January 2025). Its total worldwide gross was $89 million against a $40 million production budget. The critical reception was not great, and it still holds a 46% critics’ score at Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, the audience score is significantly higher at 87%, which reflects the enduring popularity of the movie.

That momentum is reflected on the current streaming charts. The film has appeared among the most popular titles on MGM+. It currently sits at No. 8 on the platform, ranking below heavy hitters like Project Hail Mary and the horror series From.

However, when it comes to the streaming stats on Prime Video, A Working Man actually ranks even higher. The site About Amazon has revealed the top 10 most-watched movies on the streamer for the period from July 13 to July 19. A Working Man sits at No. 4 on the list, with Statham’s The Beekeeper also being featured at the No. 7 spot. The site doesn’t reveal the actual viewership numbers, but it does reveal that action has a huge presence among Prime Video’s most popular content:
