Taylor Sheridan might currently be raking in the cash with Dutton Ranch, which recently concluded its first season, but the writer, producer, and showrunner’s biggest TV hit is currently proving its timelessness on streaming. Alongside the Star Trek franchise, Taylor Sheridan’s shows are the reason to have Paramount+. Dutton Ranch and Marshals were gigantic hits this year, and Sheridan’s other shows, like Landman and Spec Ops: Lioness have amassed their own respective fan bases away from the Yellowstone franchise. But when it comes to Taylor Sheridan shows, audiences keep going back to the series that started it all, as it’s currently the biggest show on streaming.
Dutton Ranch hasn’t just been successful in its own right; it has also propelled the other Yellowstone shows up the streaming charts. Marshals was trending throughout Dutton Ranch‘s entire first season run on Paramount+, as was the OG Taylor Sheridan series: Yellowstone. Now that Dutton Ranch‘s first season is over, audiences are desperate for more Western action, and its brought them back to the core series. Despite its finale dividing the fan base, and the series ending two years ago, Yellowstone is currently the #1 series on Paramount+ worldwide. In fact, several Taylor Sheridan series are currently climbing the streaming rankings. Dutton Ranch has been pushed down into second, the Sylvester Stallone-led Tulsa King is in fourth, Marshals is further down in sixth, and Landman is desperately clinging on in tenth place.
If you’re reading this because Taylor Sheridan was in the headline, then Yellowstone should need little introduction. Before Sheridan turned the show into a sprawling franchise, set over three centuries, we were introduced to John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and the immediate Dutton family. Some characters went on to lead entire spin-off shows, while others didn’t even make it past the first episode (poor Lee Dutton).
‘Yellowstone’ Was Nearly Perfect…. Nearly
When Yellowstone first dropped in 2018, it was a breath of fresh air for the Western genre. The usual tropes and iconography was folded into the stunning Montana landscape. Not only that, it’s one of the few westerns about actual cowboys (rather than gunslingers calling themselves cowboys). Alongside Costner, the series featured a now-iconic cast, including Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley, Jefferson White, Gil Birmingham, and occasional appearances from Sheridan himself.
The series holds an overall Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%, with a user score of 76%. Season 3 managed to earn a prestigious 100% rating. Its overall score would be much higher. However, Season 5 almost struck out as badly as Game of Thrones. Its no secret that Season 5 felt rushed, which was partly due to behind-the-scenes conflicts between Sheridan and Costner. However, it wasn’t enough to kill the franchise, which is still going stronger than ever, with even more spin-offs in the works.
Taylor Sheridan’s Own Ranch Is Getting a ‘Yellowstone’ Spin-Off
As well as new seasons of Dutton Ranch and Marshals, Taylor Sheridan is working on another Yellowstone spin-off, and this one will hit much closer to home. 6666 is the next new Yellowstone spin-off. The series will take place on the iconic Texas ranch, which debuted in Yellowstone. Unlike the Dutton Ranch, the Four Sixes is a real ranch, which Sheridan co-owns. 6666 has been confirmed to be in active development at Paramount. Although, a release date hasn’t yet been set.
