Disney’s recent stretch of auspicious box office runs just came to a crashing halt with the underwhelming performance of Moana, but given the company’s impending slate, it doesn’t look as though its temporary woes will persist for long.
Of the several films Disney still has on its 2026 schedule, perhaps none is more anticipated than Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday. The latest installment in the tremendously profitable Avengers franchise and the first film in what will be a two-part finale to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘Multiverse Saga,’ Avengers: Doomsday will feature the convergence of a seemingly infinite number of Marvel characters as they face a foe of ineffable power.

Marvel has just ramped up its marketing for the new blockbuster, releasing its first full-length trailer on Monday. Tickets for Infinity Vision-certified theaters are also on sale now.
New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer
The beginning of the trailer is very X-Men-centric. We open with a shot of a “Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters” plaque that’s been collecting dust.

We then transition to a shot of Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, watching out of an X-Mansion window as some sort of multiversal chasm ignites the sky.

This leads into a shot of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most iconic antagonists. Downey Jr., of course, helped launch the MCU with his portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man, but he now returns to the franchise for what will assuredly be a subversive take on the Fantastic Four villain.

Doom, in a Latverian accent, warns that “something is coming” and that “we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.”

We then cut to a shot of Avengers Tower, where a group of previously disparate heroes has assembled.

The New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Captain America, and Ant-Man watch as Thor once again warns of impending danger.
The Asgardian says, “I’ve fought with many warriors in my time who were far stronger than all of us put together, and they died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one.”

Thor’s voiceover plays over shots of several heroes, among them Shuri/Black Panther. We also get a new shot of James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops, marking his return as the character after previously portraying him in the original Fox X-Men trilogy.
Beloved Marvel Characters Return

This leads into a fight sequence between Channing Tatum’s Gambit and Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, because why not? Thor’s voiceover pleads the importance of unity as we transition to the Wakandans extending a hand to members of the Fantastic Four and New Avengers.

This leads to a shot of Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, a character she last portrayed in earnest in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

The shapeshifting mutant takes on the appearance of Yelena Belova, leading to a Florence Pugh vs. Florence Pugh fight scene.

Patrick Stewart’s Xavier is then shown talking to Sir Ian McKellen’s Magneto, reuniting the two for the first time since 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

We then get a cool shot of Doom deflecting a Thor attack with relative ease, which leads into what is perhaps the most climactic moment of the trailer.

Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers, again wielding Mjölnir.
